Sawmill & Timber Processing Module

Mobile & Stationary Log Band Sawmills – Primary Timber Processing

Modular, expandable solutions for vocational training, professional timber processing and commercial wood production.

1. Module Overview

The Sawmill & Timber Processing Module provides comprehensive technical solutions for converting raw logs into sawn timber, including boards, planks, beams and construction timber.

Designed for vocational training institutions, forestry departments, woodworking workshops and commercial production facilities, the module combines modern mobile and stationary band sawmills with essential timber-handling, cutting, maintenance and quality-control equipment.

Depending on the required production capacity, log dimensions and operational conditions, DMH offers a range of configurations, from compact portable sawmills to heavy-duty industrial installations.

The module can be integrated into existing Woodworking & Carpentry, Forestry, Agriculture and Construction Departments, or established as an independent, income-generating production workshop.

4. Practical Training & Educational Applications

For vocational training institutions, the module can be supplied with a structured technical curriculum,

including predefined practical exercises, worksheets, safety procedures and assessment materials.

Main training subjects include:

  • Timber identification, characteristics and classification

  • Log measurement and cutting optimization

  • Operation of mobile and stationary band sawmills

  • Production of boards, planks, beams and battens

  • Saw blade selection, sharpening and maintenance

  • Timber moisture measurement and drying principles

  • Production planning, yield calculation and waste reduction

  • Machine safety, preventive maintenance and quality control

Examples of predefined practical exercises:

  • Exercise 01 – Log Measurement & Cutting Planning: Measure a raw log, determine its dimensions and prepare an optimized cutting plan.

  • Exercise 02 – Production of Sawn Timber: Set up the band sawmill and produce boards of predefined thicknesses, checking dimensional accuracy.

  • Exercise 03 – Blade Maintenance & Adjustment: Inspect, sharpen and adjust a band saw blade according to manufacturer specifications.

  • Exercise 04 – Timber Yield & Cost Calculation: Determine material recovery, cutting losses, production time and estimated processing costs.

-> Training can be adapted to the institution's qualification level, available machinery and practical training objectives.

5. Commercial & Economic Benefits

Beyond vocational education, the module offers significant opportunities for productive and income-generating activities.

Raw logs can be converted into marketable timber products for local construction, furniture manufacturing, carpentry, packaging and other woodworking applications.

Mobile sawmills enable decentralized timber processing near legally authorized harvesting locations, potentially reducing the transportation of unprocessed logs.

Stationary installations can support continuous production and supply other departments, including Woodworking & Carpentry, Construction and Furniture Manufacturing.

The integration of timber drying, finishing and waste-utilization equipment can further increase product value and improve resource efficiency.

Key advantages:

  • Local value creation and employment opportunities

  • Reduced dependence on imported processed timber

  • Flexible production capacities and progressive expansion

  • Practical training under real production conditions

  • Potential revenue generation and partial or full operational cost recovery, depending on market conditions

  • Improved timber utilization through optimized cutting and processing

6. DMH – Integrated Technical Solutions

DMH provides modular, scalable solutions adapted to the technical, educational and commercial objectives of each institution.

Depending on project requirements, our scope can include technical consulting, equipment selection and supply, workshop planning, installation and commissioning, operator and trainer instruction, technical documentation and after-sales support.

The Sawmill & Timber Processing Module can be delivered as an extension to an existing department or as a complete, stand-alone timber-processing workshop.

From raw logs to marketable timber – combining vocational skills, practical technology and sustainable local value creation.
